The Margarita has its origins in Mexico and was born in the 1930s or 1940s. There are different stories about the cocktail's creation, but a commonly accepted version says that bartender Carlos "Danny" Herrera invented it in his Tijuana shop for a dancer named Marjorie King. He is said to have created the cocktail to make the taste of alcohol more pleasant for King, so the name "Margarita" could be a variation of Marjorie. The Margarita is traditionally made with tequila, Cointreau (or triple sec) and fresh lime juice, served with salt on the rim of the glass.
